Wefted Human Hair Illusion Crochet braids are a relatively new technique that allow you to crochet human hair bundles without cutting the hair from the track or weft. Since the hair isn't cut from the weft, installs can be washed, blow-dried, can exercise and swim freely, and lastly installs can be removed and reused without damage. This technique is more commonly combined with a traditional sew-in, to replace lace frontals and lace closures. This combination is known as a Hybrid Human Hair Crochet Install.

What about using loose hair or bulk human hair for illusion crochet braids?
Bulk human hair cannot be removed & re-used, and have a higher chance for slippage versus using wefted human hair and synthetic hair installs. Slippage is when hair slips out the knots made by a crochet needle and detaches from the braids it's attached to. This slippage can increase with exercise, swimming, and other forms of styling of the install such as curling, flat ironing, shampooing or oiling of the scalp.

What are Illusion crochet braids?
Before we dive into what this style is we must first understand and distinguish what other types of crochet braids are and look like compared to the illusion type.
TRADITIONAL Crochet BRAIDS

This style of crochet braids, where the knots are visible, is the norm when completed by stylists with little experience or when completed as a DIY style.

Knotless crochet braids

This style of crochet is known as Knotless crochet braids because the knots are hidden.
Even though the knots are not visible the seams are still visible. The seams are the individual pieces of hair that fold over, and conceal the braid as seen above.

Parting, and pulling the hair up or back make the seams more conspicuous.

Illusion Crochet Braids are knotless crochet braids taken a step further.
Other terms such as Invisible Crochet Braids, Vixen Crochet Braids with no Leave-out, and Seamless Crochet Braids are used interchangeably but all of them refer to the same type of crochet braids.

The most popular type is the, 360° install. For this install, the seams, around the entire perimeter of the head, are blended into the hairline. Blending requires the synthetic or human hair be teased, backcombed, plucked, thinned, and manipulated in other ways. This creates the look or illusion that the hair is growing from the scalp. See a demonstration video below:

@hairbydanyele If you're using an eyebrow razor, BE CAREFUL! It is very sharp when first being used. Work slowly and in small sections until you get the hang of it💜 When using thinning shears, again work in small sections and tease until you get your desired look💜 If this helped, let me know in the comments💜 #fortheloveofcrochetbraids #illusioncrochetbraids #hairtips #hairhacks #crochetbraidstyles #freetrees #crochetbundles #pittsburghcrochetbraids #protectionperfection #crochetbraids #freetressbeachcurl ♬ original sound - Crochetbraids|Natural haircare

Blending may also include: teasing, backcombing, plucking, thinning, and manipulating the parting sections of the install (middle part, side part etc). Most 360° installs allow for 5-7 parting sections, but some stylists may only offer 1-2 parting sections.

Since the illusion is created for the entire hairline and parting sections, this allows 360° Illusion crochet braid installs to be incredibly versatile. Installs can be worn down, as a half-up half down, worn up in a ponytail or bun.

Some stylists only offer blending of the front hairline (from ear to ear) also known as 180° illusion crochet braids.

All Illusion crochet braids provide people an inconspicuous protective style with free and easy access to the scalp for up to 10 weeks (maximum) but can average between
6-8 weeks depending on the hair used, braiding pattern, and maintenance routine.
